Like most rules of thumb, the ten and two thing is old as fuck. Well, older than air bags at least. See it turns out that putting one’s hands in such a position leaves them vulnerable to attack. Specifically, an air bag attack. On the light side of things, it might only blast your fists into your skull at a speed of somewhere between one hundred and fifty and two hundred miles an hour. On the lighter side of things, an air bag assault could tear your thumb right the fuck off. And, apparently, that’s fucking happened. Imagine bumping into something bloody insignificant like a pole, then having your thumb ripped from your hand, and then shot at your face at about two hundred miles an hour. Imagine that it somehow managed to catch you somewhere soft, like your eyeball. Imagine getting fucking murdered by your own thumb after you hit a speed bump wrong. Man, it’s a wonder anyone drives at all.
